5. Call My Name - Cheryl (2012)
This highlight from A Million Lights proved that Cheryl (note the removal of her surname) didn't need Girls Aloud anymore to stay in the spotlight. All she needed was an addictive Calvin Harris production, with a hook that would make you want to call her name. Top that with the irresistible choreography, and you get an amazing 'live' performance. Your definition of 'live' may vary.
4. Dear Darlin' - Olly Murs (2012)
Personally, I think this is the best song from Right Place, Right Time only behind Army of Two. Although the lyrics are quite old-fashioned, (who writes a letter to girlfriends anymore?) it's still one of those rare times when Olly Murs' vocals really shines. The music video, like all of his previous ones, still suck, however.
"I feel so close to you right now, it's a force field..."
Although the lyrics aren't a goldmine like all the other Calvin Harris songs written/produced, such as We Found Love and Call My Name, the beat is just too addictive to be written off. Looking for something to play at raves? This is a perfect pick.
2. Summertime Sadness - Lana del Rey (2012)
Lana del Rey is a very controversial character, and if anyone should be called polarizing, it's her. With her deep sultry voice and trademark Hollywood-like productions, every song of hers is an adventure to listen through. Del Rey manages to hook you in real quick in this somber track from her sophomore album. Although it's a great song, it would definitely have been better if the lyrics weren't reminiscent of something you'd see in a teenage girl's diary.
1. Here's to Never Growing Up - Avril Lavigne (2013)
Although Lavigne's Goodbye Lullaby released two years ago is her best album to date, it didn't enjoy the success her first three albums had. Hoping to make a comeback to the pop scene, she released this very gem. With its' nostalgic lyrics and video, Here's to Never Growing Up hits its' climax during the chorus that will have you singing along.
